While jumping from website to website the other night
to see what some of the other distributors are pricing materials
for, I had a thought. If I'm doing this and you're doing this, why
not make it easer for one of us? Ok, you win. I'll make it easy
for you. Instead of having prices from different distributors tucked
away in my spreadsheet program, I'll print it out and hang it on
the wall behind the counter. Big letters and numbers and highlight
the best deals, you won't even need your glasses. How does that
sound? That way, you won't have to spend all this time trying to
find the best deal. Now I wouldn't do that if our prices were higher
than everyone else. As a mater of fact, out of 120 Raw materials
and Clays we were lower than our competitors on 112 of them. Not
bad huh? Which competitors? Let's say 300 miles from 72701. Any
more than that and shipping starts to cloud the picture. (see cantaloupes
below)
The
two most common statements I hear about Material Prices are:
#1
"When I lived in California I could get that for $x.xx"
Cantaloupes are 7cents a pound in the field in California.
They're
90cents a pound by the time they get to Arkansas
IGA sells
them for 99cents a pound. That's a good deal.
If you
can get someone in CA to pick and ship cantaloupes for less than
99 cents a pound, go for it. But I want to know about it, maybe
I could get them to you for 89 cents a pound. :)
#2
"The last time I bought that from _____ it was $x.xx"
If the
last time you bought a material was 1998 (or even 1 year ago), you
may be in for a shock! Some of this has gone up a little, others
a little more. Remember that $3.00 a gallon thing?
But, if
you are standing in our store, we have the best deal around -
Excluding
Cantaloupes!
Keep it
muddy!

PS
If you are out of our area and can't come by to compare, wouldn't
it be cool if your local supplier did this for you? Ask them and
see what they say.
